Alcohol Counselling on the Gold Coast

You Don't Have to Hit Rock Bottom

I offer alcohol counselling on the Gold Coast for people who have started to wonder about their drinking. Through my own lived experience of sobriety, combined with professional counselling training, I understand how hard it can be to break old patterns, sit with a change in identity and build a life you do not want to escape from.

You might be drinking most nights, finding it difficult to stop once you have started, reaching for a drink to cope with stress, anxiety, loneliness or overwhelm, or simply feeling that alcohol is taking up more space than you want it to. You do not need to have lost everything, reached a crisis point or called yourself anything in particular before reaching out. If stress is part of the picture, my stress counselling page describes another area we can talk through alongside alcohol.

Could Alcohol Be Taking Up More Space Than You Want?

Many people come to me quietly feeling that something needs to change, long before anything looks dramatic from the outside. These are some of the things we can look at together.

Patterns that concern you

Drinking most nights, drinking more than you intended, or finding it difficult to stop once you have started. We can look at what the pattern actually is, without judgement.

Triggers and coping

Stress, anxiety, loneliness or overwhelm, or simply needing something to switch off with. We can explore what tends to come before a drink and what it is doing for you.

What you want to change

Questioning your drinking, cutting back, taking a break or becoming alcohol-free are all valid places to start. The goal stays yours — I will not push you into someone else's version of recovery.

Life around alcohol

Routines, relationships, social occasions and the way drinking sits alongside your own values. We can also talk about the mental space alcohol takes up, including thinking ahead to the next drink or carrying guilt afterwards.

What a Session With Me Can Look Like

A first session can start simply with what has been happening, what role alcohol is playing at the moment and what you would like to be different. There is no history to prepare and nothing you need to have worked out beforehand. If you have tried to cut back before and slipped into old habits, that is a useful place to begin rather than something to apologise for.

From there we can explore the triggers and patterns you notice, and consider practical coping options that fit your circumstances and the goals you choose. Where other things sit alongside your drinking — anxiety, or pressure in a relationship — we can include them, and my anxiety counselling and relationship counselling pages describe that support in more detail. I will not tell you what you should do; my role is to help you understand your own patterns and consider what you want life to look like.
